LANGUAGES: A MAJOR ASSET

ENGLISHA springboard for further success.

Pupils are immersed in a bilingual environment from the nursery section in order to develop in them a greater openness to the world and to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow. Indeed, knowledge of English as a language of international exchange is fundamental.

This reinforcement is reflected at two levels through fun language and literature lessons, around the 4 main skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Humanities: through early learning subjects such as History, Geography and Science, provided in co-teaching, with two teachers in the class, one of whom is English-speaking.

English literature: by varying the approaches as well as the subjects and the supports, the pupils are exposed to the English language, thus favoring the anchoring of the linguistic skills and the interest of the children.

In order to motivate our students and give them the desire to express themselves orally as well as in writing, they will tackle rich and varied themes and will have access to various media as well as an English library. The end of primary school is crowned by a Cambridge exam. In addition, a trip to English-speaking land is organized at the end of the school year for 7th graders.

GERMANThe diversity of languages

The diversity of languages must be affirmed from primary school and for this, we offer students the learning of German as soon as they enter 9th grade, at the rate of 3 sessions per week. The introduction of Goethe's language also responds to the linguistic peculiarity of Switzerland.

Our goal is to make him glimpse, not only another way of speaking but also another way of celebrating, eating, living. Our method therefore favors communication situations. In 8th grade, the children take part in a trip to a German-speaking country during the green class week.

DIGITAL TOOLS

Preparing for the world of tomorrow.

We cannot imagine today a world without technology. This is why all our classes are digitally equipped: interactive whiteboards, beamers, computers, tablets and 3D printers. Digital skills are at the service of academic and transversal learning in a playful way.

The will of the Notre-Dame du Lac Institute is to help children evolve in a demanding and contemporary world, while having controlled exposure to screens.

Technology and digital as educational tools

Technology and digital serve pedagogy. Educational apps are carefully chosen to meet learning goals at each age.

The Institute also offers computer courses, allowing students to learn about programming, to know how to use the Internet in terms of resources and security and to familiarize themselves with the main digital tools (word processing, presentation software , image modification and various other applications...). The coding taught early prepares our students for the digitization of the world of tomorrow.

ARTS

THE MUSIC

Through vocal warm-up exercises, in the form of songs, we explore bodily feelings. In learning a repertoire of songs, we work on the different fundamental musical notions, the musical gesture, the nuances, the accuracy of the sound, listening to oneself and to others. Become familiar with the musical vocabulary and its coding, approach the great composers, know how to transcribe rhythmic cells, be able to read and write notes on a score, here are the proposed objectives.

Listen, feel, move on the music of yesterday and today to flourish in musical awakening.

THE DRAWING

This course is based on learning realistic drawing and techniques related to the correct use of simple tools, such as pencils or crayons.

A sensitive and personal research completes this training with a permanent concern for quality and care.

At the end of the year, students participate by level in the Institute's internal competition.

PHYSICAL AND SPORTS EDUCATION (EPS)

Learning the taste of effort.

Within the Institute Notre-Dame du Lac, we follow an educational project centered on the child and his general psychomotor development. The challenge of physical education is to bring students into a series of learning situations, leading them to take pleasure and progress in motor skills and a taste for effort.

In recent years, new sports cycles have been offered to our students. Thus, swimming, sailing and climbing have joined the long list of sports activities.

In parallel with this EPS educational project, the children participate in several major sporting events: the cross of the Institute, the Escalade race, the "Prim'ski" competition, the sports festival...

SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

A personal and spiritual journey

In primary school, children enrolled in class (optional) follow a guaranteed Christian spiritual awakening at the rate of one session per week, in the timetable. The catechists accompany the students in their personal, spiritual and academic journey.

Celebrations and masses punctuate the year at key times in the Christian calendar.

The pastoral calendar

The awakening to the faith of the youngest

A bi-monthly time is provided for 5-year-old children whose families wish, in order to allow a very first approach to the Christian faith.

spiritual formation

The school offers the possibility of preparing the sacraments according to the Catholic tradition, baptism, the sacrament of forgiveness - reconciliation as well as the feast of the first communion, which introduces children to the sacrament of the Eucharist.

The preparation for the first communion is done from the 8th, with in particular two strong points:

- The retreat: a retreat of a few days offers future communicants the opportunity to reflect and pray.

- The celebration: the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the First Communion, comes to crown this process of faith.

Solidarity actions

Solidarity actions for the benefit of the poorest are organized periodically throughout the year: in particular during the Christmas and Easter markets.
